‍ ‍“My work is made up of colorful underglaze imagery on ceramic forms with a moveable hand-built element to the exterior. I use underglaze to depict different stories of home, personal experiences, and quirky paintings on ceramic forms. The pieces are wheel thrown functional ware made with white stoneware, porcelain, clear glaze and color velvet underglazes. My work toggles the idea of what home really is to each individual person, what makes one happy and what truly matters to one’s self. Whether these feelings are something built with the people around you, a specific place or a specific object. I typically use thrown ceramic forms as my canvas and a hand-built element (the chains) to the exterior as an added extension of what I am saying in each piece. The moveable chains gives every piece a personal touch of imperfectness and unbreakable links much like one’s own true nature of being a resilient person in today’s world. I believe that I can break barriers of what it means to be an artist by making art that relates to experiences myself and the viewer have gone through within each one of my pieces.” -Hope
